Dr Murray Knebel had a vision for his practice that has been 28 years in the making; a place where relationships are built and each guest receives personal attention. He envisioned working with a comprehensive team of caregivers and providing an exceptionally warm atmosphere, capable of attending to each and every concern of its guests. A place where fears are eased and guests are educated, interactive and confident in their treatment plans. A place that is a pleasure to go to and that doesn’t feel like a dental office.

The use of homeopathy is helping Sierra's dentists give holistic care to their patients.
More dentists are recognizing that attached to the teeth is a human being, and that in treating a localized manifestation of disease in the mouth, it is imperative that due consideration be given to the general physical state of the patient. Only when the dentist understands the relationship that oral disease has to the physical and mental aspects of the patient can he or she offer a fully therapeutic service.
Sierra Centre explores topics such Bio-Compatible Dentistry, Naturopathic Dentistry. We also explore Chronic Fatigue and Fibromyalgia.
What does dentistry have to do with sleep?
It's all about tossing and turning; approximately 10 to 30 percent of adult men and women snore. Severe snoring may become such a nuisance that it disturbs a whole family's sleep. In many instances a spouse will be inclined to sleep in a separate bedroom just to obtain adequate rest.
The most obvious connection between your teeth and your sleep is bruxism. This occurs when you grind or clench your teeth during sleep. But the dental sleep medicine specialists at Sierra aren’t just bruxism experts. They also may be able to help you with snoring and obstructive sleep apnea. These problems involve a partial or complete blockage of your airway and can by symptoms of other health issues as well as unsatisfying sleep.
For those of you anxious, afraid or who have not been to a dentist in an extended period of time. Sedation Dentistry may just be the answer that you are looking for.
At Sierra Centre for Dental Wellness we can provide you with a way of getting the dental help that you need. Whether it is just using Nitrous Oxide to feel more relaxed during your dental visit, or whether you require an Oral Conscious Sedative to make you completely relaxed. Or if you are extremely anxious, you may possibly require intravenous sedation.
Your dental appointment will begin in our roomy and comfortable sedation suite. Once we have helped you to rest comfortably with a warm and cozy blanket, you will be given some medication (small pills) which will cause you to become sleepy. Your pulse and blood pressure will be continually monitored.
Once you are completely relaxed and comfortable, we will begin your dental treatment. Although during your treatment you will be responsive and awake, you will be largely unaware of what is happening and will have very little recollection, if any, of what transpired during your dental appointment.
The most common reason for extraction of a tooth is due to damage or breakage or decay. There are additional reasons for tooth extraction:
We also provide Wisdom Teeth extraction as well as Nitrous Oxide Sedation and other Extraction Alternatives.
Drill free dentistry uses a technique know as air abrasion dentistry to accomplish what was once only done using drills. The dental drill by it's nature produces a very unique sound that most everyone immediately recognizes when they hear it. This dental drill noise usually produces some apprehension in most almost everyone.
Drill free dentistry is considered by some to be a gentler form of performing the task of cleaning out cavities in teeth for fillings or for any of the other functions that the dental drill would normally be used for.
Root canal therapy is designed to correct disorders of the dental pulp -- the soft tissue inside the tooth that contains nerves, blood vessels, and connective tissue. Teeth with abscessed, or infected, nerves were once removed with corrective therapy. But now, in 95 percent of these cases of pulpal infection, the natural tooth can be saved through modern endodontic procedures.
Symptoms of Infection
At the Sierra Centre for Dental Wellness we emphasise the benefits of Preventive Dentistry to each of our patients. Each dentist at our practice is committed to providing a holistic, whole-of-life plan to your teeth to help protect your teeth, your smile, your investment.
As well as sticking to a good oral hygiene regime, remember to visit your Dental Hygienist at Sierra! They can help you decrease the chances of decay, help maintain healthy gums through regular cleaning and saliva testing. They can advise on new toothbrushes, new dental products available to you and which products are the most appropriate for your individual circumstance.
When you have active periodontal disease, routine cleanings are not enough because they generally focus on areas of the tooth that are above the gumline.
A regular scaling and root planning procedure removed plaque, tartar and bacterial toxins from tooth surfaces below the gumline.
That is why at Sierra Centre for Dental Wellness we make sure that you and your family are on a twice-a-year cleaning schedule.
We will remind you by either a phone call or an e-mail that it is time for a checkup and offer you a booking time that suits your lifestyle.
When teeth are heavily decayed they may be too weak to survive with just a filling.
By placing a crown, a tooth may be given a new lease of life. Even when a single tooth is lost a denture may not be required as a bridge can be made which spans the gap with a tooth attached to those next to the space.
Sometimes when a single small tooth is lost at the front of the mouth a simple bridge can be made which has 'wings' that are glued to the back of the adjacent teeth. This results in less tooth being damaged by the drill.
